Special
Announcement:
Knowledge Factory
and Nedcor inject fun(ds)
into the lives of special athletes
Nedcor donates cash and gear to Knowledge
Factory's golf training
programme for intellectually disabled children.
Life may be a game, but it's a
tough game for those with intellectual
disabilities. The good news is that the Knowledge Factory,
together with a healthy donation from Nedcor, has made
the game just a little easier (and hopefully a whole lot more
fun) for children at Isizouethu School in Daveyton on the East
Rand.
Nedcor recently handed over a cheque
of R10 000 as well as golfing gear to
Knowledge Factory's Play Factory programme. An
ex-employee of Knowledge Factory who now works at Nedcor,
Melosha Raghununan, secured the donation. Despite having
left Knowledge Factory's employ, Melo remains committed
to Play Factory and its goals.

Play Factory was established by
Knowledge Factory in July 2003, following
an inspirational presentation given to staff by two
Special Olympian athletes, just before they set off for the
games in Ireland last year. Open to anyone
who'd like to be involved, the programme
focuses specifically on golf and aims to
make the game of golf more accessible to intellectually disabled
children in South Africa.
As such, Play Factory launched
a year-round weekly golf training programme for intellectually
disabled children at Isizouethu school in Daveyton at the beginning
of 2004. Volunteers, from both within and without Knowledge
Factory coach the children on Saturday mornings, at Vodacom
World of Golf, sharing skills and assisting wherever possible
in fund-raising activities for the programme.

Factory
The programme's objectives are
to assist and support activities of the Special Olympians; create
awareness and provide information and participation opportunities
for customers, Primedia and friends; as well as promote and
live the South African motto: Unity through
Diversity.
Play Factory are thrilled with
the donation from Nedcor. We work closely with the Special Olympics,
and will come to an agreement as to how
we spend the money, taking into consideration the goal of getting
the children to become official Special Olympics
participants. At this stage we still need the basics like second
hand golfing kits, transport, and food & drink for the kids.
We hope that Nedcor's donation
will inspire like-minded corporations and individuals to give
of their time and money to similar worthwhile
causes. Play Factory, although a Knowledge Factory initiative,
is open to anyone who would like to participate, and we
invite interested parties to please contact geraldinem@knowledgefactory.co.za.
