When South Africa was announced as the host country for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, ComutaNet approached Spar to join them in producing a special edition Star Music cassette, to commemorate the victory. The cassettes, distributed free of charge to 5000 taxi drivers within the inland area, reaching 9.4 million unduplicated people, will be a constant reminder of the elation the country felt on hearing the bid announcement. Spar enthusiastically agreed to be the exclusive sponsor of this tape, adding to the overall content with interspersed retail advertising. "ComutaNet's ability to reach the commuting
market offered us the perfect opportunity to reach a large portion
of a mostly black, soccer crazy population. This sponsorship made
perfect sense to us as 60% of our customer base is the upcoming black
market," says Suzanne Patterson, Inland Advertising Manager for
Spar. |
ComutaNet commissioned popular local DJ, Bob
Mabena, to add commentary to the tape keeping the dialogue soccer
specific, concentrating on facts and figures of the game with a specific
emphasis on the South African team.
