WORLD AIDS DAY RADIOTHON

On December 1 2004 Talk Radio 702 held a major event in support of World Aids Day to raise funds for the Topsy Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation that makes an invaluable contribution to prevent the spread of HIV/ Aids and alleviate its consequences. Its focus is in rural communities with particular emphasis given to children.

A 13 hour Radiothon was held which started with John Robbie at 6am and ended with The World at Six at 7pm. It was a huge success with over R2.2 million received in pledges for the Topsy Foundation by the end of the day.

Listeners, clients and prominent South Africans gathered at Primedia Broadcasting's offices where Gwen Ramagopa - Gauteng MEC for Health, Judge Edwin Cameron and Eunice - a 10 year old girl at the Topsy Foundation, all spoke in support of this initiative and the fight against HIV/ Aids. One hundred thousand red balloons were released as a symbolic gesture to highlight the plight of those living with HIV/Aids and to recognise the donations. excellent cause!

A big thank you to all the listeners, clients and people of Joburg who contributed so generously to such an excellent cause!
